Join Stephen Girard, potter/owner of Whitemud Clay Studio, to view the stratification of the breath-taking Frenchman Valley. Stephen will discuss the Whitemud geological formation, how he ‘wins’ his clay from the clay pits (with an on foot tour of the clay pits) and how the white mud is so imperative to his work and life. Followed up with a studio tour and hands-on clay experience, garden tour and a Cafe Terra wood fired meal  (baked in the outdoor oven),  fresh picked garden salad and a wood fired dessert.

Meet at WMC studio, must have own transportation to clay pits.

Meet at WMC studio, must have own transportation to clay pits.


3)       12-16 people  BUS TOUR (determined by bus availability)

Meet at WMC studio. Bus tour of Ravenscrag loop, including an on-foot tour of the clay pits.


*Please wear suitable footware and appropriate clothing (hiking boots/sneakers, clothing you don’t mind getting muddy).  Bring a water bottle and sunscreen.


Clay and Garden/Food Experience                                                                                                   ITINERARY

12:45 ARRIVE AT STUDIO in Eastend

1:00   Begin journey (or board bus) for tour of the Frenchman Valley and/or Ravenscrag Loop

2:30   Arrive back to studio. Herb Spritzers served (using Café Terra’s garden herbs) while watching a clay making demo; takes place in studio yard

2:45    Studio tour

3:15   Stephen will demonstrate the intriguing process of creating  vessels on the wheel. Each guest will have the opportunity to try their hand at shaping a piece of the whitemud clay on the wheel, under Stephen’s experienced hand. While guests are waiting for a turn throwing, they are invited to spend time touring the gallery and the vegetable and herb gardens with Shon, Stephen’s partner and operator of the local sustainable Café Terra.

4:45   Appetizers (specialty beverages, beer and wine available for purchase)

5:15   Local ingredient supper served on WMC pottery

  •  Wood fired meal
  •  Deconstructed salad, garnered from the café gardens, proferred in a piece of WMC sculpture
  •  Wood fired dessert
  •   Tea or coffee.
