The Cypress Hills Observatory

The Cypress Hills Dark-Sky Preserve is one of the darkest, easily accessible dark-sky preserves and one of the largest with 39,600 hectares protected – that’s 97,850 football fields! To help visitors better experience the amazing dark sky that surrounds the park, Cypress Hills Saskatchewan opened their doors in August 2011 to an observatory.

Old Man on His Back – NEW Nocturnal Preserve
Location: Old Man on His Back Ranch, Saskatchewan
Nestled in relative natural darkness from sunset to sunrise, Old Man on His Back Prairie and Heritage Conservation area (OMB) has been designated as a Nocturnal Preserve by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and is the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC’s) first darkness preserve in all of Canada.
